About Pregnant Woman and Children

Can I go with my child?

IRODORI KYOTO does not allow children under the age of 12 to visit. We cannot ensure the safety of children because we have high heated hair irons which are used for kimono or hair set in the store.

Do you have kimono insurance for rental? What should I do if I stain and damage it?
No charge for kimono insurance.
For your peace of mind, all plans include a guarantee of up to 3,000 yen for repairs. We also deal with problems such as some eating and hosiery, shrinkage of the fabric due to rain that cannot be covered by an umbrella, and so on. However, antique and retro kimonos are one-of-a-kind items, so please use them carefully so that other customers can wear them.
*Please make sure to use an umbrella in case of rain.
*Please place a handkerchief on your lap when eating.
*Please inform our staff in case of any stains.
Do you have kimono for children?

We’re afraid, but we do not have them for children.

Can I rent kimono while I’m pregnant?

We do not accept kimono rental from pregnant women. If you fail to inform us in advance that you’re pregnant, we will not take responsibility for any problems that may occur. We appreciate your understanding.

Inner Wear and What to Bring on Rental Day

About valuables and lost and found

Please take care of your valuables and other belongings by yourself. On rare occasions, some people forget their valuables when changing clothes or bags. Although we do check for lost items, we are not responsible for them. We’ll report any valuables left behind to the nearest police station. If we find any other items left behind, we will keep them for one week after discovery.

What if I left something at the store?

Please contact the store you visited as soon as possible. We’ll keep lost items for one week, but we’ll dispose of them after the one-week period. We may dispose of your personal belongings including something raw, and underwear earlier than the one-week period.

Is it possible to bring back the clothes I took off after dressing to my accommodation?

If you wish to return to your accommodation with your clothes in kimono, we will charge you 5,000 yen as a deposit. We will return you the 5,000 yen when you return. 

Can I leave my luggage and clothes I took off in the store?

Yes, we can keep them for you. We’ll keep your luggage, except for valuables, free of charge during business hours. We can also store large items such as bags and suitcases.
No prior application is required.

Is it okay if I don’t bring anything?
We recommend that you bring the following items to make your experience more comfortable. 
 
【Year-round】
Camisole, tank top
...Please come to the store wearing something that covers your bra.
 
【Winter November to March】
...Please come to the store wearing the following items to protect yourself from the cold. Two layers are recommended especially for cold seasons.
●Long-sleeved inner wear(warm innerwear) with a large opening at the neck is desirable.
●Long leggings
…Ankle-length warm tights and pantyhose are supposed to be removed.
*You cannot use a stick-on heat patch to prevent bass burns.
* In winter, shawls and jackets are available for rent as an option for a fee.
 
【Summer: June to September】
● Plain-colored shorts that brends well with the skin. Summer kimonos and yukatas are made of thin fabric, so there is a possibility that shorts will show through.

About Kimono

Can elementary school students rent kimomo?

We are sorry, but guests of elementary school age and younger are not allowed regardless of height or physique. We apologize for any incovenience caused. We look forward to seeing you after you reach junior high school age.

How long does it take to get ready?

It is going to take 1 to 1.5 hours including picking up kimono, hairset, and dressing you up. Please note that if you arrive late for your appointment, you will have to wait longer and take more time.

What sizes of kimono do you have available?
Many Retro kimonos are small(equivalent to size S) because they were worn by people in the past, but other kimonos are available up to size L.

We’re afraid that we don’t have kimono available for sizes below or above the size listed above. The assortment in our store is mainly in S, M, and L sizes.
On rental day, you can choose kimono while trying them on. You can cancel on the day you visit us if there are no size available for you, or if you don't find one you like because there are few items for your size. In this case, free of charge for cancellation
Can I rent kimono on rainy day?
We’re open as usual even on rainy days. We’ll give you umbrellas because some kimonos in store are made of water sensitive silk.
※Please let us know as soon as possible when you change or cancel your plan.
Please note that a cancellation fee will be charged if you contact us on the day of your appointment.
Can I choose kimono or obi(belt) in advance? Or can you put it on hold for me?

We’re afraid that you’re allowed to choose kimono only on the appointment time. There’s a possibility that even kimono that you have been interested in on our instagram may not be in our store due to maintenance or change of clothes.

What kind of obi knots are available?

At IRODORI KYOTO, we only offer half-width obi with a ribbon knot. If you prefer the square-shaped obi(Nagoya obi), we recommend you to visit our sister store “Tekuteku Kyoto”.
You can also change to a frilled obi for an additional 550yen.

What kind of kimono is available?
Half of the kimonos at IRODORI KYOTO are antique ones(pure silk) that were actually worn by women in the Showa period(1926-1989) in their daily lives. Each store always carries a wide variety of kimonos, from Meisen(plain weave silk), a fashionable type of kimono which was popular from Taisho to the early Showa period, to casual wool kimonos, and even our original kimonos, with approximately 350 different patterns at anytime. (Some kimonos are made of polyester)
Original kimonos are tailored in retro, pop, and Nordic designs with IRODORI KYOTO’s unique taste.
Since it is a non-formal kimono, you can enjoy wearing it with a hat and other fashion items. Please enjoy one of a kind kimono experience.

Hairset and Face Makeup Option

Can men also get hair set?

We ask men to set their hair on their own. There is no space or mirror for hair setting in our store, so please finish setting your hair before coming to our store.

What kind of hair ornaments are available? Can I bring my own?
A wide variety of hair ornaments are available, including dried flowers, ribbons, mizuhiki, and pearl pins. Unlimited number of hair ornaments can be selected. 
You can also bring your own.(Customers are responsible for attaching their own ornaments.) Even if you do not have your hair set, we can rent them out from 550 yen. Please let our staff know on the day.
I have short hair. Can you set my hair as well?
・For shoulder-length to chin-length hair,
…If your hair is long enough to be tied back, an updo is often possible.(Depending on the way the hair is cut and the quality of your hair, it may not be possible to do an updo.) We can also do loose, fluffy half-up style, etc. Please consult with our stylists.
・For hair above chin length,
...We will use curlers and hair irons for styling your hair. (Depending on the way the hair is cut and the quality of your hair, we may not be able to meet your request.)

You can cancel hairset option on the appointment day if you do not find one you like.

Do you offer make-up services?

Face make-up service is not available. Also, there is no space or mirror for makeup or hair set in our store, so please finish makeup before coming to our store.

I want set my hair by myself. Can I use a mirror in your store?

There's no space to set your hair by yourself in our store. We also don’t rent heat irons and dryers for your hair. Please come to our store after you finish setting your hair if you don’t get hair set option(1,000 +tax).

Modify or Cancel Your Plan

Can I change my plan on the appointment day?

Yes, you can. In our store, you will choose your plan after you come. However, we request you to reserve the hair set option in advance. This is because there’s possibility that we cannot make a room for you on the appointment day without reservation.

Do you have cancellation fee?

Cancellation made after 6:00 p.m.

on the day before your appointment or cancellation made on the appointment day, or no-show will incur a cancellation fee of ¥2,000 per person. Please let us know before 6:00 p.m on the day before your appointment. 

How to Reserve

What is couple plan?
Couple plan means a discount that will be applied for two customers who take one men’s kimono(or yukata) and one women’s kimono(or yukata) plans. Please let us know when you visit us if you want to take the couple plan. 
 
*Please note that hair set option(1100 yen) and any other options(330yen~) are not included in the total.

How to Reserve Online

I have not received the automatic reply after I made a reservation.
Please check the filtering settings of your e-mail software, free e-mail service, or internet provider. There is also some cases that your e-mail may have been sorted into an other folder or a spam folder.
 
* In the case that you use a mobile carrier's e-mail address, such as "xxxx@docomo.ne.jp" "xxxx@ezweb.ne.jp", there's a possibility that the e-mail address is set to not receive any e-mail other than those that you have allowed from the beginning, or that you do not receive any e-mail from other mobile carriers.
Can I change my appointment date or time slot after I reserved.

Please make another reservation and cancel your previous one if you want to change something about your appointment. You can cancel the previous one via ‘appointment cancellation page’ in the booking confirmation email which you received automatically. You may receive the email in a spam folder. Please call us when you cannot cancel your appointment online.

I would like to make a reservation for two people, but online I can only make a reservation for one.
We set maximum number of customers at each time slot. If there only remains a room for one person at chosen time slot,  you can only reserve for one. Please choose another time slot in that case.
Even if there are no vacancies online, we may be able to make a room for you during non-busy seasons, so please call the store. Please note that we may not be able to meet your request.
What does "-" mean in your calendar?

"-" means the day when we don't accept reservations.

Can I reserve at the time slot with the "-" sign?

The "-" sign means that the time slot was fully booked. You cannot reserve at the time slot even if you call us.

How to Return Kimono

How long does it take to remove my kimono?

About 10-20 minutes.
Since 18:30 is the last time to return kimonos, it tends to get crowded 30 minutes before that time. We will assist you in taking off your clothes in turn when it is crowded.

If you have schedule such as bullet trains or reservations, please return earlier.

How long can I rent a kimono?
You have to come back before 6:30 p.m.
 
No extended hours service is available.
No extensions are allowed. If you are late, you will be charged a penalty fee of 3,300 yen per person.
